So after 2 weeks without a functioning computer (NOT. CONVENIENT. AT. ALL!!), Happily Ever After Confectionery is back online! Hoorah!….alright on to the blog: This latest project was a TON of fun and equally challenging, involving creating a giant cupcake.
I recently purchased a cake mold in the shape of an enormous cupcake and have been dying to try it out. Then, as luck would have it, my hair stylist had an up and coming birthday and a few of her co-workers were planning a little surprise. One of them pulled me aside and asked if we did actual cakes…BINGO!!! It was time to use the cake pan.
If you click on the link and take a look at the pan, you can see that its SUCH an awkward and cumbersome shape. Baking was a little tricky since the top baked much quicker than the bottom. So the trick was to cover the top half with foil and allow the bottom to continue baking for an extra twenty. We were kind of freaking out because we were worried that it would dry out…but it didn’t! It was actually really moist and very delicate.
After baking, we let it cool completely, did a crumb layer of our whipped buttercream, layered on the fondant cupcake wrapper, piped out frosted rosettes and PRESTO, A GIANT CUPCAKE.
So just a brief confection description: aside from the giant cupcake, our girls at the Sabino Salon told us to make these confections as girly as possible with still a grown-up flair. The result: Chrisitan Louboutin Cupcakes! Rose cupakes topped with a whipped bourbon vanilla buttercream and adorned with fondant Christian Louboutins….I mean, what’s girlier than high-end shoes and roses?!
